CHAPTER FIVE
A ROCKY ROAD
Unfortunately, the CIA struggled to achieve its goals. Agents from other governments often knew who CIA agents were and fed them false information. Incorrect CIA information led to the failed Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba in April 1961.
Four decades later, the CIA claimed that Iraq possessed Weapons of Mass Destruction, or WMDs. No WMDs were ever found, but that bad information propelled the United States into the war and occupation of Iraq. In cases where CIA information was accurate, politicians and the military sometimes ignored it, with terrible consequences.
